Tip of the Hat to Ken, my gramps

So I thought I'd join the ranks of other ramblers and create a blog. I decided to name this blog after my grandfather who passed away on May 21st, 2008 from Alzheimer's. He was a member of an organization in Texas called the Odd Fellows, which works to do good deeds in the community. One of my grandfather's many catch phrases was "wake up and grow!," a mantra meant to rally his other members into recruiting new ones. As an appreciation for their achievement, my grandfather wanted to present them with a trophy with this phrase engraved on it. However, the engraver misread the exclamation mark in the quote and wrote "Wake up and growl" on all the awards. My grandfather was always one for pranks, so I'm sure he had a good laugh. Then he probably made the engraver give him the trophies for free (he was quite the shrewd business man)!
Let the ramblings begin......

Hey Todd --

Just thought I'd stop by your new blog, and see what the deal is. And no, I don't think you are particularly emo for having on. Hell, my own website is nothing more than a glorified journal, and I am hardly emo. As far as I am concerned, it's nigh-impossible to be from Texas, and be emo. The two just don't reconcile, you know?

I'm sorry to hear about your grandfather's passing; he sounds like he was quite a guy. I figure he must have been, to make such an impression on you. After all, blood does not automatically make the impression; it's the greatness of the person, regardless of relation.

And what's all this I hear about you coming back to these parts? Could this indeed be true?

Todd!!!

Welcome to the blogosphere, you'll find it can be quite addictive. I'm foolish enough to be doing an "every day" project, so I post (obviously) every day. Your blog name is great and a wonderful tribute to your grandfather. I'll add you to my links, and visit you often.

Rave on!

Excellent choice for names! The Odd Fellows should be proud.
